Progressive system	Regressive system
Place stress on direct taxes (rather than on indirect) or on the taxpayer’s ability to pay ●     Taxpayer will shoulder his own tax burden	Introduces more indirect taxes rather than direct taxes ●     Prejudicial to consumers; will adversely affect the buying power of the poor
